BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - May 26, 2013 - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is pleased to announce it has been awarded the "Best Park" award in the 2013 Fairfield County Weekly readers poll. This is the first win for Connecticut's only zoo, which celebrated its 90th birthday last year.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - May 25, 2013 - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is experiencing a baby bonanza with the birth of two male Nigerian Dwarf goats and six Guinea hog piglets, of which five are male and one is female. These new additions join two female Nigerian Dwarf goats born last month on Earth Day. The miniature kids and pint-sized piglets are already a huge hit with the public.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – May 24, 2013 –Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is known for offering special family programming during the summer months. In years past, the zoo has featured a free flight bird show, Rainforest Reptiles, and last year’s Galapagos tortoises were a huge hit with the public. Starting this weekend, two camels will call Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo home through Labor Day.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - May 2, 2013 - On Monday, April 22, 2013, Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo welcomed two female Nigerian Dwarf goats. Their mother, "Cupcake," is three years old and gave birth after a five-month gestation period. Their father, Rodney, will celebrate his first birthday in June. The baby goats, known as kids, are both healthy and happy, and welcome additions to the goat yard.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - February 14, 2013 - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo will reopen on Saturday, February 16 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, following a week of post-blizzard cleanup. To view photos of the cleanup effort, click here. To show their Valentine's Day love for their visitors, admission will be half price on Saturday and Sunday, February 16 and 17.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - September 21, 2012 - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo will host its 6th Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, October 1, 2012, at the exclusive Connecticut Golf Club in Easton, Connecticut. Now a signature annual fundraising event for the Zoo, players can enjoy a fantastic day on the links while supporting Connecticut's only zoo. The course features a rating of 73.5, a slope rating of 136 on Bent grass, offering a welcome challenge to even seasoned golfers.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - September 21, 2012 - The last chance for the public to view two giant tortoises at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo will be this Sunday, September 23. "Professor," a Galapagos tortoise weighing 416 pounds, and "Skipper," an Aldabra tortoise weighing a whopping 537 pounds, spent the summer in Bridgeport as part of the zoo's 90th birthday celebration and will be heading home to Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, TX. At the same time, the zoo is pleased to announce the arrival of several new animals for the fall season. A North American river otter, two gray foxes, two agouti, and a Chacoan peccary are the latest additions to Connecticut's only zoo.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - June 21, 2012 - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is pleased to announce the return of family favorite entertainer, Chris Rowlands. Rowlands will be the featured children's performer at Connecticut's only zoo for weeklong stints in June, July, and August. Famous for getting everyone involved, Rowlands brings animals to life through song, dance, puppets, and colorful props, to teach children about animals and their habitats. Children are invited to wear fun hats and sing along with Rowlands on stage as he shares his self- penned songs. All Rowlands' performances will be free with paid admission to the Zoo.

Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is teaming up with the Bridgeport Bluefish in what is sure to be a grand slam for families throughout Connecticut and beyond. On June 23, 2012, visitors can enjoy Bluefish Day at the Zoo from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Zoo Day at the Bluefish will be hosted on July 15, 2012, when the Bluefish host the Long Island Ducks at 2:05 p.m. Through Labor Day, visitors may show their ticket stubs from either location for discounted admission at the opposite attraction (details below). This partnership helps celebrate the Zoo's 90th birthday and the 15th anniversary of the Bridgeport Bluefish.

As part of the zoo's 90th birthday celebration throughout 2012, Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo welcomed Gov. Dannel P. Malloy today. Bridgeport State Rep. Auden Grogins (D-129) hosted the governor on his first visit to the state's only zoo since taking office. Gov. Malloy is the first sitting governor to visit the Zoo in two decades.

In an attempt to beat the holiday traffic, Viktor, an Amur (Siberian) tiger, has arrived at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo. He has returned home for the holidays and the Zoo is inviting visitors to help welcome him back to Bridgeport and celebrate "Happy Zoo Year" with half price admission from December 26-30, 2011. Also new on exhibit are two Maned wolves, the Zoo's rare Chacoan peccary piglet, and a baby Pronghorn. Viktor was one of three cubs born in 2004 at Connecticut's only Zoo and was transferred to the Detroit Zoo in 2008. He will be ready to greet his East coast fans after Christmas.

Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is pleased to announce the birth of an endangered Chacoan peccary piglet, the first to be born in the northeast. The female piglet will remain off exhibit until the spring. Also new to the Zoo are two Canada lynx and two Common rheas, both of which will be on exhibit this weekend.
