Teachers and Parents

"In the end, we will save only what we love. We will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught."
-- Baba Dioum, Senegalese conservationist

Inspire, Inform, Involve
Whether you are a college professor, a parent of a two year old, a scout leader or an assisted living activities coordinator, Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo offers a wide range of programs and activities just right for your needs.  Our educators instill interest in science, as well as a sense of respect and wonder for nature through our awe-inspiring programs and activities.

Teachers - Liven up your lesson plan with the Zoo’s exciting, hands-on, educational programs here at the Zoo, or we’ll bring the zoo to your classroom, auditorium or campus.  Inspire your students from Pre-K through college to learn about science, animals and the environment by choosing one of the many CT science standards-based programs we offer. Our educators will also work with you to create a customized program. Or, reward your kids with a fun, self-guided
field trip.  With all these options your kids are sure to have a Zoo experience they'll love.

Parents - Instill a sense of wonder in your child about animals and the environment with our fabulous entertaining and educational programs.  We offer programs as diverse as the planet itself. From our very popular Zoo Tots where parents and their very young children explore the wild world of animals together, to Zoo Patrol our dynamic, weeklong summer program for kids, to the Conservation Discovery Corps for teens, the Zoo has something for all ages and all interests.

Scouts - Inspire your scouts to learn about nature, animals and stewardship as they take part in badge-earning activities.  We offer badge programs for cub scouts, brownies and junior girl scouts as well as animal encounter programs here at the Zoo. Or, invite one of our Zoo educators to liven up your next meeting.

Libraries - Motivate your visitors to read more about the world of animals and nature by inviting the Zoomobile into your library.  This interactive animal encounter will encourage and inspire your visitors to learn more about the world around them.

Assisted Living / Special Needs Programs - Offer your guests a truly wild experience with a visit from our Zoomobile.  We bring the Zoo into your facility for a fun, entertaining and educational experience you won’t soon forget.  This close encounter will engage, enchant and inspire your guests to appreciate the wonderful world of animals and nature.

Just 4 Teens: - Investigate Zoo careers with our many teen programs.  We offer seasonal as well as year long programs including Internships, our popular Conservation Discovery Corps and our Explorer Post.  Our programs will inspire and motivate teens looking for a hands-on experience to see if Zoo life is for them.
