Started by United States Senate proclamation, endangered species awareness events encourage people of all ages to learn about the importance of protecting endangered animals and plants and what actions can be taken to help preserve their future. Participate in a scavenger hunt featuring exotic and domestic endangered animals. Scavenger hunters may enter a random drawing to win a $100 sponsorship of an endangered animal through the World Wildlife Fund. Sponsored by Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo AAZK Chapter.

Join us for an afternoon of learning about farm animals and farming with former Connecticut resident Chris Rowlands, an entertainer who’s famous for getting everyone involved. Children are invited to wear fun hats and sing along with Rowlands on stage as he shares his self-penned songs including “Cud Chewing,” a tribute to cows. Sponsored by the Fairfield County Farm Bureau.

Everyone loves penguins – and ecotourist visitation to penguin colonies is one of the newest crazes. In Patagonia, Argentina, numerous penguin colonies are open for tourist visitation. Learn about the history of tourist visitation to penguin colonies in Patagonia and some of the studies examining the effects tourists have on these penguins that are so popular! $5 suggested donation. Refreshments will be served. This program, taking place in our Hanson Exploration Station, is part of the Evening Lecture Series, sponsored by Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo Volunteer Association.

Spend the day visiting new animals at the Zoo and enjoying the great outdoors. This event is presented in partnership with the Town of Milford.

Explore native wildlife, wild flowers, and wild weather with Jeff Feldmann as he leads this virtual kayak ride. Jeff Feldmann, a nature photographer par excellence, will take you on a journey along the Connecticut waterways that you will never forget. See an exquisite winter sunrise taken at the Rocky Hill ferry site. Vicariously paddle down the river during a thunderstorm, and watch a little, green heron catch its breakfast. $5 suggested donation. Refreshments will be served. This lecture, taking place in the Hanson Exploration Station, is part of the Evening Lecture Series, sponsored by Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo Volunteer Association.

Don't miss the 203rd Barnum's Birthday Bash in celebration of P.T. Barnum, famed showman, philanthropist, and one of Bridgeport's best-known citizens at Connecticut's only zoo. The party will feature a hilarious stage show, "Barnum's World of Wonder and Magic," which will educate and entertain. Learn how Barnum changed the face of entertainment, not only in America, but internationally. Show and clown noses free with Zoo admission. Rain or shine.

The Bridgeport Bluefish will celebrate Zoo Day at the Bluefish stadium while hosting their arch rivals, the Long Island Ducks! Zoo staff will be inside the stadium offering special drawings for great prizes and Zoo merchandise, while sharing information about the new animals coming to Connecticut's only zoo this summer.

Meet Dr. Jay Walshon, who has written a series of EYE SEE YOU children's books featuring amazing photos from his many trips that take the reader on an African "who am I" journey. The wonderful images, riddles, and rhymes create a unique game for children, and for the child in all of us. Dr. Walshon's books instill an intimate appreciation of nature, promote a love of animals, encourage the exploration of foreign lands, and introduce the beauty of photography by interconnecting the innocents of the world - our children and the animals who share our planet. $5 suggested donation. Famous for getting everyone involved, Rowlands brings animals to life through kid-friendly songs, dance, puppets, and colorful props. Chris creatively blends music, comedy, and education to create fast paced, interactive shows that teach and inspire young people. Children are invited to wear fun hats and sing along with Rowlands on stage as he shares his self- penned songs about animals and their environment. Free with paid admission to the Zoo. Each performance is 30-35 minutes long.

Bring your favorite teddy bear friend to the Zoo! This "beary" fun day will feature children's crafts and storytelling focusing on Bear Awareness and the facts about real bears. Free admission for children under age 12 who bring their teddy bear to the "Teddy Bear Clinic" and are accompanied by a paying adult. Rain date: August 10.

The white-handed gibbon is a threatened Southeast Asian ape species known for its pair bonding and sophisticated vocal behavior, including the complex song duets of mating pairs. Learn about Dr. Terleph’s investigation into these fascinating songs and behaviors. He will recount his recent experiences recording from a large, free-living population of gibbons in Khao Yai National Park, Thailand. $5 suggested donation. Refreshments will be served.
