 April 2 - 30 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily) - Wildlife Art Show Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo will host its annual Wildlife Art Show in its Carousel Building. The Zoo invites area high school students to submit their photography, watercolors, sketches and other medium for judging by local artists. Zoo visitors can cast their votes as well. The winners receive art supplies and gift certificates to art stores. Meet the artists during a reception on April 2 from noon to 3 p.m.
April 16 (noon - 3 p.m.) - Pet Awareness Day. Some people love their pets like they’re family, and we encourage that type of respect for domesticated animals. With this event, we promote responsible pet ownership as we partner with local animal adoption and animal rescue organizations to discuss pet care and safety. This is a prime opportunity for sponsorship by a pet-related organization..
Cost - $500
April 22 (noon to 3 p.m.) - Earth Day Celebration. We honor our planet with educational programs and crafts that identify key issues affecting the Earth. If your company is involved in recycling, pollution control, or other environmental issues, this is the event you should sponsor. Cost - $500
June 8 (Time TBA) – Members Night. Our loyal members enjoy this special night more than any other event they attend. We make them feel part of the zoo family with behind-the-scenes tours, animal presentations, magic shows, face painting, musical performances, crafts, refreshments, and much more. It’s a “feel good” event that you can feel good being part of.
June (TBD) – Stripes the Tiger’s 1st Birthday Party- Our mascot is having a birthday party, and we’ve invited other animal mascots to attend. We hope to share birthday cake with the Bridgeport Bluefish, Fairfield University Staf, UConn Husky, Barnum Festival Spirit the Elephant, the Sound Tiger, the American Zoo and Aquarium Association’s Aza, and many more. This should be a great media photo op, so get your company (or company mascot!) involved. Cost - $2,500
July 31 (noon - 3 p.m.) - Big Truck Day. When we first held this event two years ago, we weren’t sure our visitors would embrace an event that didn’t have an animal theme. Well, they lined up at the Front Gate first thing in the morning and kept coming all day. The fire truck is the biggest hit, but kids also love vehicles such as the excavator, backhoe, ditch witch, and even the dump truck you’re your company is involved in construction or trucking to any degree, ride along with us on this popular special event. Cost - $1,000
August 21 (noon - 3 p.m.) - Teddy Bear Picnic. There is simply nothing cuter than a small children clutching their teddy bear as a zoo volunteer, dressed as a nurse, gives the child’s favorite toy a “check-up” and clean bill of health at the “Teddy Bear Clinic.” Of course, we include an educational message that day too, featuring stories and crafts about the bears, including the Zoo’s endangered Andean Bears. We can’t “bear” to be without your sponsorship for this long-time Zoo event. Cost - $1,500
September 8 (6:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.) – Annual Wild Wine Safari. Adults leave the kids at home and visit the Zoo after-hours to sample 80 fine wines, beers and cordials accompanied by exotic hors d'oeuvres and festive music. Our annual fund-raiser also features dozens of exciting premier items in our silent auction, Zoo “Night Owl” tours, and other fun actitivities. Cost – Call Development Office
October 1 -31 (Weekends) – Fall Fest. Fall in New England is something to celebrate, and with 52 lush acres, the Zoo is a prime site to enjoy the splendor of the season. We line our paths with pumpkins, offer hayrides around the Zoo, decorate our Carousel Building in a Halloween theme, and offer “Night Owl” tours after-hours to see what spooky things come out after dark. - Cost - $5,000
October 22 - 23 (noon – 3pm) - Wolf Awareness Weekend. With three species of wolves on exhibit, the Zoo has the opportunity to compare and contrast these somewhat misunderstood creatures. Two of the species (red wolves and maned wolves) are endangered, while the third (timber wolves) is native to the state. Our new WOLF building, (Wolf Observation Learning Facility) is a great site for visitors to learn more. wolves and endangered Maned wolves. Cost - $350
October 30 (noon - 3 p.m.) - Boo at the Zoo. The animals may not understand what’s going on, when miniature tigers, giant bumble bees, and other funny looking creatures roam around the Zoo on this day when we offer free admission for children under 12 in costume accompanied by their (paying) families. But, this annual event is always popular with the parents, who like to get more than one day’s use out of a costume! The event features a magician, music, candy, games, and Halloween-animal crafts.
