The Zoo Has Something for Everyone This Holiday Season!

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - December 10, 2010 - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo, the state's only Zoo, is a great alternative for holiday gatherings and unique gift giving ideas. With new animals coming and going all the time, it's never the same experience twice so come visit today!

UPDATED: Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is closer than you think and is open daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve the Zoo will close at 1:00 pm and the gate will close at 12 noon. Adult admission (ages 12 & older) is $11.00, children (ages 3 -11) and senior admission (62 and older) is just $9.00, and children under 3 years old and Zoo members are admitted free. Parking at the Zoo is free of charge.

December 29 - 30: Happy Zoo Year! 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Join your Zoo family and see how the animals ring in the New Year! Learn about animal winter adaptations, watch them enjoy a special enrichment activity, and make an item to bring home for the wildlife right in your own backyard. Each visitor will receive one free hot beverage! Hands-on workshops to create and deliver enrichment items for the animals will be held for children ages 6 - 12. Limited space available, so please preregister for workshop(s) by calling (203) 332-4243. This event is free with Zoo admission.

Looking for a last minute venue for your holiday gathering? Choosing the right location for your holiday party is one of the most important and often the most challenging decisions to make. This year, let your imagination run wild at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo! Celebrate your special event in one of three unique spaces, including a Victorian Greenhouse, wooded log cabin or large Carousel Building with an indoor working carousel. We are sure to have a venue to meet your party needs. Centrally located between Greenwich and New Haven, Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo can accommodate parties for up to 200 guests. Visit the Zoo's Gift Shop for interesting and unique holiday gifts for everyone on your shopping list! Items include glass ornaments depicting peacocks, tigers and wolves and other nature related items, most for $20.00 and under.

Toys for Tots:
Donations for Toys for Tots will be accepted at the front gate until December 20. To thank you for your donation, you'll receive a free child's admission with a paying adult!

Ongoing/Year Round - People Food, Animal Food, Pet Toys:
Donations of non-perishable food will be collected and delivered to local homeless shelters. Don't forget the animals in need! Pet toy and food donations will be delivered to local animal rescue groups. All items will be collected at the front gate.

NEW! Kiducation:
Drop off your new or used clothes and shoes in the "Kiducation" white bin at the bottom of the Zoo's drive way and CT's Beardsley Zoo will receive a monetary donation in return. Don't worry about the quality, all is welcome! The not so usable items will be recycled. Drop off your donations anytime the Zoo is open, all year long. No furniture, appliances or household items please.

NEW! Help Keep the Earth Clean:
Donate your used ink cartridges and cell phones anytime the Zoo is open. We are collecting ink jet and laser jet cartridges, fax and toner cartridges as well as old cell phones. Everytime you donate these items, the Zoo will receive a monetary donation. Help keep the earth clean while earning money for the Zoo, too!

On Christmas Eve, the Zoo will close at 1:00 pm and the gate will stop taking visitors at 12 noon.

Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo features 300 animals representing primarily North and South American species. Visitors won't want to miss our new Bald Eagle exhibit, Andean condor, Amur (Siberian) tigers, ocelots, red & maned wolves, Andean (spectacled) bear, llamas, and golden lion tamarins.
