Harvest Hayrides are a Highlight This November at the Zoo

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - October 6, 2010 - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo, the state's only zoo, releases the November calendar of events. The schedule includes fun family events throughout the month, most of which are free with the cost of admission.

November 1 - 30: Harvest Hay Rides, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Explore the Zoo with your friends and family atop a tractor drawn wagon -- a seasonal adventure that is not to be missed! Hayrides will run on weekends and school vacation days through the end of November. Rides will start at the W.O.L.F. cabin. Tickets are $2.00 and can be purchased in the gift shop.

November 4 and 9: Teen Volunteer Open House, 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Teens and their parents interested in learning more about our career exploration program, or helping the Zoo expand its education and conservation missions should plan on attending one of these fun, informative evenings. Teens, ages 14 - 18, will learn about the Zoo's Explorer Post and the Conservation Discovery Corps (CDC.) For more information on the Explorer Post or CDC program go to www.beardsleyzoo.org. November 9 and 10: Zoo Tots, 10:30 am
This monthly 45-minute program for children 18 months to three years, who are accompanied by an adult, may include stories, activities, crafts, and live animals. This session is entitled "Who Eats What? Pre-registration is required by calling (203) 394-6563. The cost is $10 for Zoo members and one child, and $15 for non-members and one child.

Nov 8 - 12: National Sustainability Education Week
National Sustainability Education Week provides a unique opportunity to emphasize the importance of education in confronting the unprecedented economic, social, and environmental challenges that threaten the future of global society. November 13 - 14: America Recycles Day, Noon - 3:00 pm
Celebrate America Recycles Day by bringing us your junk! Bring in your gently used shoes for the Soles for Souls program. Shoes will be donated to people in need around the world. Sneakers in bad shape? - bring them in and Nike Re-use a shoe will recycle them into flooring for athletic courts. E-junk can go in our Green Trash Can - we will accept ONLY: zip disks, diskettes, CD's CD-Rs, CD-RWs, DVD's, video tape, audio tape, game cartridges, DAT, DLT, Beta or Digibets, hard drives, Zipp drives, Jazz drives, jump drives, printer cartridges, cell phones, pagers, PDA's, chargers, cables and headset accessories. Get $1 off admission if you bring something to recycle, limit one discounted admission per person.

Thanksgiving Day - CLOSED

Thanksgiving weekend, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Need to entertain your relatives? Or work off some of that pumpkin pie? Come to the Zoo Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend and get $1 off every admission. NOTE: This offer may not be combined with other promotional offers.

Toys for Tots / People Food, Animal Toys / Animal Food Donations:
Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is proud to work with community groups to support those in need. Donations for Toys for Tots will be accepted December 20th. All other items are collected throughout the year.

ONGOING/YEAR ROUND: Donations of non-perishable food will be delivered to local homeless shelters. Don't forget the animals in need! Pet toy and food donations will be delivered to local animal rescue groups.

Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is closer than you think and open daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Adult admission (ages 12 & older) is $11.00, children (ages 3 -11) and senior admission (62 and older) is just $9.00, and children under 3 years old are free. Zoo members are also admitted free.
