Fall Into Family Fun at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - August 19, 2010 - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo, the state's only zoo, announces a wide variety of events this September and October sure to delight visitors of all ages. The schedule includes fun events each month, most of which are free with the cost of admission.

Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is open daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Adult admission (ages 12 & older) is $11.00, children (ages 3 -11) and senior admission (62 and older) is just $9.00, and children under 3 years old are free. Members of the Zoo also are admitted free. Parking at the Zoo is free of charge. The main information phone number is: (203) 394-6565.

September 1 - 6 (including Labor Day) Wonders of Wildlife, 11:00 am & 2:00 pm
Come on over and meet some the world's most fascinating animals! Explore exotic places like deserts, rain forests, wetlands and even Connecticut's backyard forests while learning about the amazing adaptations that allow animals to call those places home. Presented at the Zoo's Learning Circle, this event is FREE with Zoo admission.

September 14 & 15: Zoo Tots, 10:30 am
This monthly 45-minute program for children 18 months to three years, who are accompanied by an adult, may include stories, activities, crafts, and live animals. This session is entitled "Day & Night." Pre-registration is required by calling 203-394-6563. The cost is $10 for Zoo members and one child, and $15 for non-members and one child.

UPDATED! September 15: Evening Lecture Series: Green Roofs with John Kruzshak, 7:00 pm
This lecture, taking place in the Hanson Exploration Station, is part of the Evening Lecture Series, sponsored by Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo Volunteer Association. Admission is FREE with donations gratefully accepted. Refreshments will be served. For more details, visit www.beardsleyzoo.org.

3rd Annual Scarecrow Competition: Art classes, scout troops, corporations, community organizations, families, and individuals are invited to create their own scarecrow! We'll provide the frame - you make it as wild and wacky as you like! Scarecrows must be dropped off by October 23 and will be judged at the "Boo at the Zoo" event on October 31. NEW! October 2 - November 30 (Weekends, Columbus Day and Veteran's Day): Harvest Hay Rides, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pmExplore the Zoo with your friends and family atop a tractor drawn wagon -- a seasonal adventure that is not to be missed! Rides will start at the W.O.L.F. cabin. Tickets are $2.00 and can be purchased in the gift shop.

NEW! October 4: 4th Annual Golf Tournament
Join us at the exclusive Connecticut Golf Club in Easton for fun and fundraising! With a course rating of 73.5 and slope rating of 136 on Bent grass, this course will challenge and exhilarate even a seasoned golfer. Bring your "A" game, support the Zoo and have a ball! The day's festivities will include a round of golf, great food, a silent auction and raffle. October 23-31: Scarecrows on Parade
Come check out our scarecrow competition and vote for your favorites! FREE with admission to the Zoo.

October 22, 23, 29, 30 & 31: Howl O Ween, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Calling all ghosts and goblins! Come and spend a truly fun and frightful evening at the Zoo featuring the Harrowing Hayride, Haunted Farmyard and magic show by Jim Sisti. Your ticket also includes FREE face painting, kettle corn, and of course, CANDY! Don't miss this hauntingly good time! Guests can purchase a limited number of Howl-O-Ween tickets for only $6 from October 1- October 22. These discount tickets can be purchased during normal business hours by visiting the Zoo's ticket booth. Tickets purchased after October 22 are $8 per person. Event recommended for children ages 6-10. (Face painting not available on Oct. 31)

October 31: Boo at the Zoo, Noon - 3:00 pm
