Summer Adventures Await as Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo Announces Registration Open for Zoo Patrol2/12/2025
![]() BRIDGEPORT, CT (Feb 11, 2025) – Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is excited to announce the return of Zoo Patrol, an immersive and educational summer program for kids. Designed for young animal lovers and future conservationists, Zoo Patrol offers seven weeklong sessions filled with adventure, discovery, and behind-the-scenes experiences. Each day children will explore a different area of the zoo with a custom guided experience. Children spend much of the week outdoors, learning about animals at the Zoo, their enrichment, and veterinary care through staff presentations designed to engage young audiences. There is also an emphasis on learning through play with Zoo-themed games and art-making activities. This year’s sessions run from June 30th through August 15th, with opportunities for children ages 7-11 and 11-13 to explore our environment and the fascinating world of wildlife. Registration is now open at beardsleyzoo.org, and spots fill up fast. ![]() What: Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is celebrating the naming of the female Giant Anteater, born on August 27, 2024. This marks the fourth Giant Anteater birth at the Zoo—a significant milestone in conservation efforts for this threatened species. With habitat loss and other environmental threats affecting their population, this birth is a huge win for conservation and the Zoo’s mission to protect biodiversity. ![]() Bridgeport, CT – Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo, in collaboration with The Maritime Aquarium and Yale’s Peabody Museum of Natural History, invites volunteers to be part of an exciting and impactful citizen science initiative. Together, these institutions have formed the Peabody-BeardsleyMaritime chapter of FrogWatch USA, one of the largest chapters nationwide, and they’re calling on community members to join in an effort to protect local frog and toad populations. What is FrogWatch USA? FrogWatch USA is a fun and meaningful way for families, individuals, and nature enthusiasts to get involved in conservation. As a trained volunteer, citizen scientists will make evening visits to local wetlands, listening for and recording the calls of frogs and toads. Observations will contribute to a national database that plays a critical role in tracking amphibian population trends and protecting their habitats. |
