Favorite Animal: Spider monkeys, their incredible agility, strength and limitless curiosity inspire me every day. Why Climate Change is Important: I grew up in the Caribbean, and even though the temperature swings aren’t as severe as they are here in the US, I saw firsthand some of the devastating effects of Climate Change, including floods followed by months of drought, more hurricanes with higher intensity, not to mention the increasing global temperatures. Having experienced all of this, I needed to act. Favorite Part of Cool Blue: I get to inspire members of our community to take action and fight Climate Change! Favorite Pizza: I love barbecue chicken pizza, on a thin crust! |

Favorite Animal: Mexican Wolf. I love how they greet visitors at the Zoo every morning! Why Climate Change is Important: Climate change, the long-term shift in weather and temperatures, is a worldwide catastrophic crisis that often goes unnoticed or unaddressed because it’s negative impact may not be readily apparent or people doubt that their contributions would make a substantial change, leading to a disinclination to participate in proactive activities. I remember watching the impact Hurricane Irene and Sandy had on my community, decimating neighborhoods, destroying forests, and eroding beaches all due to rising air and ocean temperatures. Without climate change, the rainfall and winds during these hurricanes may not have been as powerful, and as a result, our ecosystems could have been less adversely affected. Animals are significantly affected by climate change because the increase in temperatures causes the loss of their food (plants can only survive in certain climate zones) and habitat. People can positively prevent climate change, and therefore, care for animals and their society, by doing small actions such as drinking out of reusable water bottles, turning off the water when brushing their teeth, taking shorter showers, and using public transportation (especially to prevent greenhouse gases from creating compromised air quality)! Favorite Part of Cool Blue: Introducing children to the issue of climate change and helping them comprehend how they have the power to take action to fight the climate crisis is very rewarding. By increasing the public’s awareness of climate change, I believe that we can all work together as a community to create a more sustainable world. Favorite Pizza: My favorite type of pizza is barbecue chicken, but I also enjoy cheese, pepperoni, bacon, and garlic! |
