About Cool Blue Bridgeport
The Zoo has partnered with the City of Bridgeport to create Cool Blue Bridgeport - a climate action and resilience program. As part of this collaboration, we're offering free 30 minute climate change lessons and climate mitigation techniques for all students in Bridgeport public schools until June 24th, 2023. The program focuses on a different animal in our collection each month as we discuss the ways each species is being affected by the changing climate and how it affects us, especially as a coastal city.

So come share a slice with us as we learn!

Favorite Animal: Spider monkeys, their incredible agility, strength and limitless curiosity inspire me every day.

Why Climate Change is Important: I grew up in the Caribbean, and even though the temperature swings aren’t as severe as they are here in the US, I saw firsthand some of the devastating effects of Climate Change, including floods followed by months of drought, more hurricanes with higher intensity, not to mention the increasing global temperatures. Having experienced all of this, I needed to act.

Favorite Part of Cool Blue: I get to inspire members of our community to take action and fight Climate Change!

Favorite Pizza: I love barbecue chicken pizza, on a thin crust!

  1. Favorite animal- North American River Otters! Other than them looking cute, seeing them swim (and using their adaptations to do so) is quite mesmerizing.

  2. Why climate change is important- As cliché as it sounds, we only have one Earth. We need to do what we can to minimize our footprint as best as we can to maintain biodiversity, which is important for the survival of all species on Earth.

  3. Favorite part of Cool Blue- Teaching about species heavily impacted by climate change! Some people are not aware that what we do in our homes can negatively affect species across the world, so by teaching them about those species, they can enact changes to help them.

  4. Favorite pizza- Usually plain, but when I go to Blaze Pizza (a great pizza chain!), I usually get spinach, mushroom, green pepper, and broccoli on my pizza!
