Golfodulcean Poison Dart Frog

Common Name: Golfodulcean Poison Dart Frog
Scientific Name: Phyllobates vittatus[1]
Physical Description: The Golfodulcean Poison Dart Frog has a speckled blue and green underside over a black base. They have orange, red, or yellow stripes running down their dorsal side. A small frog, they grow up to an inch and weigh less than one ounce[2]. They are poisonous when ingested, a poison produced from their diet. Golfodulcean Poison Dart Frogs hatched and raised in human care are not poisonous due to changes in their diet.
Habitat: They live in forests and inland wetlands. These wetlands are freshwater bodies that provide breeding habitats for the frogs.
Range: Southern coast of Costa Rica
Diet: Insects such as ants and mites
Life Span: 10 years
Social Structure: The male Golfodulcean Poison Dart Frog is territorial, establishing an area for courtship with a female[3]. After the courtship and laying of the eggs on leaves, the male will guard the eggs, and upon hatching, transport them on his back to the water[4].
