![]() Zoo Will Offer Free Admission to Connecticut Children Plus One Adult from July 1 through September 4 BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – June 30, 2023 – Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is pleased to announce that the Zoo will participate in the state’s “Connecticut Summer at the Museum,” offering free admission to Connecticut children from July 1 through September 4. Under the program, Connecticut children aged 18 and under plus one Connecticut adult can visit the Zoo for free. Tickets will be available on the Zoo’s website beginning at midnight on June 30. Residents must register for tickets at www.beardsleyzoo.org, and show an ID with address at the front gate. The Zoo is open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Guests are encouraged to visit anytime during the day, with the most crowded hours often occurring between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The last entry to the Zoo is at 3:00 p.m. The program is intended for individuals and families only; groups should register at https://www.beardsleyzoo.org/field-trips.html. An Extension of the Zoo’s Cool Blue Bridgeport Climate Change Education Program Is Assisted by a $50,000 Grant from M&T Bank ![]() BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – June 21, 2023 – In addition to the more than a dozen gardens providing critical habitat for native insects and pollinators on Zoo grounds, the Zoo’s Education Department has laid the framework for additional pollinator gardens off Zoo grounds as well. With the assistance of a $50,000, two-year Amplify grant from M&T Bank, members of the Education Department are engaging the community in hands-on work to help native insects, including the more than 300 species of bees found in Connecticut, as well as butterflies, moths, flies, and beetles. Developed as a way to extend the Zoo’s Cool Blue Bridgeport program, a climate change educational series that offers free Saturday admission to Bridgeport residents throughout the school year, the goal is to engage Bridgeport residents in active conservation work. After pitching the program to the City of Bridgeport’s Sustainability Manager Chadwick Schroeder, they were given the go ahead. ![]() Photo Submissions Due by July 4 BRIDGEPORT, Conn. –June 1, 2023–-Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is proud to announce its fifth annual photography contest is open for submissions, an opportunity for the Zoo’s many dedicated amateur and professional photographers to submit their best work for public viewing. The contest, sponsored by Milford Photo, will combine digital submissions with an in-person exhibition. Contest sponsor Milford Photo will be at the Zoo on Saturday, June 10, from 10 a.m to 1:00 p.m. demonstrating cameras, Sigma lenses, and sharing photography techniques for photographers at all levels, beginner to advanced, and providing an opportunity to ask questions about photography.. Photos are to be submitted digitally for a first round, with the top 100 selected for exhibition and judging. Photographers selected for the in-person exhibit will be asked to print and mat their photo (size 8 x 10). Judging will take place in July, with an in-person show held on Thursday, July 27 in the Zoo’s Hanson Building. |
