Fall is a wonderful time to visit the Zoo, so make plans to get outside with the family for fresh air while the beautiful weather lasts! The First Birth of a Spider Monkey at the Zoo
Since the 1980s is a Conservation Success BRIDGEPORT, Conn.–August 24, 2023 – Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is happy to announce the birth of a black-handed spider monkey (Ateles geoffroyi geoffroyi) to parents Janet and Gilligan this week, after a gestation period of seven and a half months. Born fully furred with its eyes open, the baby will spend its first 16 weeks of life carried on its mother’s stomach, until it’s strong enough to be carried on her back. Guests may see the baby held in its mother’s arms, but the family has free access both to their main habitat and to their inside sleeping area, so they may not be visible all the time. Mission of Conservation and Education BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – August 22, 2023 – When a passionate group of animal lovers, board members, and Zoo supporters get together, the outcome is a fun and festive way to raise funds for Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo. A group of women and men from around the region have joined forces to create the Zoo’s fourth in-person Gala, this year celebrating the multi-generational impact the Zoo has had on conservationists of all ages. The elegant evening affair, designed to raise money to support the Zoo’s mission of conserving critically endangered species, will be held on November 11, 2023, at the Inn at Longshore in Westport. This year’s Gala will feature cocktails, a seated dinner, silent and live auctions, musical entertainment, and animal encounters at a beautiful venue on the water.
 Magical Day for Children with Storybook Characters, Sponsored by Connecticut Children’s Pediatric Care Alliance with Hartford HealthCare
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – August 4, 2023 -- Once upon a time in a zoo not so far away, there was a day for all children to dress up like their favorite storybook characters! On Saturday, September 9th, the Zoo will turn into a magical land, with a day full of fun activities, including princesses, superheroes, story time at multiple locations on grounds, face painting, glitter tattoos, coloring, and animal presentations. Seven different costumed storybook characters will be on Zoo grounds from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Characters include: Ariel, Belle, Merida, Dead Fool, Captain Marvel and Spiderman.Visit the Peacock Pavilion Stage at 11 a.m. & 2 p.m. for a performance of ‘A Princess Tea’ Book and Lyrics by Chelsea Dacey, Presented by The Legacy Theatre (Branford, CT). The day of fun and fantasy is sponsored by Connecticut Children’s Pediatric Care Alliance with Hartford HealthCare. |
