Celebrate Fairy Tails Day at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo on September 11

A Magical Day Planned for Children with Storybook Characters, Sponsored by Connecticut Children’s Pediatric Care Alliance with Hartford HealthCare

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – August 27, 2021 -- Once upon a time in a zoo not so far away, there was a day for all children to dress up like their favorite storybook characters! On Saturday, September 11th, the Zoo will turn into a magical land, with a day full of fun activities, including princesses, story time at multiple locations on grounds, face painting, glitter tattoos, bubbles, and animal presentations! The day of fun and fantasy is sponsored by the Connecticut Children’s Pediatric Care Alliance with Hartford HealthCare. The organization will also offer COVID-19 vaccinations in the Zoo’s Hanson Building from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for people 12 and older.

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo Welcomes Two New Black and Gold Howler Monkeys

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – August 19, 2021– Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is the new home for two Black and Gold Howler monkeys (Alouatta caraya). The two Howler monkeys are sisters from San Antonio, Texas. Estrella, six years old, and Catalina, four years old, join the Zoo’s existing male Howler monkey, Cain, whose two previous female companions passed away from advanced age.

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo’s Farmyard Welcomes Two New Dexter Cows

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – August 13, 2021– Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo’s Farmyard is the new home for two Dexter cows (Bos taurus dexter), a rare breed currently considered to be in recovery from declining numbers. The two cows, a mother and daughter, are from a local Connecticut farm. Bridie, born in 2008, and her daughter Moo Moo Rose, born in 2015, are about half the size of a typical Hereford cow, making this breed particularly suited to small family farms. The Zoo has been home to Dexter cattle before, with the last Dexter cow, Lucy, passing away in 2018.
