Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo’s Second Zoomobile Roars Off to Schools in the Area Thanks to the Pediatric Care Alliance

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – August 18, 2022 –Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo announced today that a second Zoomobile sponsored by the Pediatric Care Alliance with Connecticut Children’s and Hartford HealthCare is now roaring off to schools in the area. The second Zoo vehicle has been wrapped with a colorful Amur tiger design and is ready to zoo-m throughout the region to educate children in schools, camps, and other facilities about popular Zoo animals and other impactful STREAM activities.

​Illuminated Displays Will Light Up the Zoo Thursday through Sunday Evenings from September 15 through November 27
 
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – August 9, 2022 – Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo continues to offer guests enchanting Centennial Year experiences! Beginning September 15 and continuing through November 27, “Glow Wild,” a brilliant, illuminated Lantern Festival will be held at the Zoo Thursday through Sunday evenings. As a continuation of the Zoo’s yearlong 100th birthday celebration, the Zoo will host a larger-than-life Lantern Festival inspired by our wild world. This incredible evening festival will showcase more than 35 large scale illuminated sculptures that will amaze guests of all ages.

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo to Hold Centennial Endangered Species Gala This Fall

Gala Committee Established to Raise Funds and Celebrate the Zoo’s Centennial Year

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – August 3, 2022 – When a passionate group of animal lovers, board members, and Zoo supporters get together, the outcome is a fabulous way to raise funds for Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo. A group of women and men from around the region have joined forces to create the Zoo’s third in-person Endangered Species Gala, this time also celebrating the Zoo’s Centennial year. The elegant evening affair, designed to raise money to support the Zoo’s collection of endangered species and enhance habitats, will be held on October 29, 2022, at the Inn at Longshore in Westport.

There’s New Monkey Business Happening at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo

Arrival of Two New Black-handed Spider Monkeys Expands the Family Group to Four
 
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – July 28, 2022–Two spider monkeys at the Zoo plus two new spider monkey arrivals equals a whole lot of monkeying around! The new additions, both female Black-handed spider monkeys (Ateles geoffroyi geoffroyi) from Montgomery Zoo in Alabama, joined their new troop in the spider monkey habitat this week. 

​Bertha, 30 years old, and Janet, 16 years old, have successfully been introduced to the Zoo’s current eight-year-old male spider monkey, Gilligan, and TT, a 22-year-old female. Both Gilligan and TT have been at the Zoo since the opening of the spider monkey habitat in June 2019. ​

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – July 1, 2022 --As part of the ongoing 100th year celebration, Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is excited to bring Master Falconer Brian Bradley to the Adventure Amphitheater this summer.  Bradley is among the nation’s premiere wildlife presenters and will be presenting two shows each Saturday and Sunday at 11 am. and 2 p.m. through September 4.
